This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the RYA Yachtmasterâ„¢ Coastal and RYA Yachtmasterâ„¢ Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills.
As with the Day Skipper shorebased course, the RYA's specially designed chart plotter software will be used during the course to give you a realistic taste of modern electronic navigation.
Pre-requisites: Prior experience and knowledge to the RYA Day Skipper practical and RYA Day Skipper Online Theory level is mandatory. Open to ages 16 and up.
Course Duration: The online theory course takes approximately 60 hours, students progress at their own pace.
Successful completion of this course will earn you the RYA Coastal Yachtmaster Theory certificate.
Course topics include:
- position fixing
- course shaping and plotting
- tidal knowledge
- use of almanacs and admiralty publications
- electronic position finding equipment
- forecasting and plotting weather systems, using barometer and observations
- collision regulations
- customs and excise regulations for cruising abroad
This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising.
We are continually updating our courses to take into account developments in technology and the electronic navigation aids now available on most cruising boats.
Pre-requisites: No previous experience or knowledge required. However, practical experience to the Competent Crew level is recommended. Open to ages 16 and up.
Course Duration: The online theory course takes approximately 45 hours, students progress at their own pace.
Successful completion of this course will earn you the RYA Day Skipper Shorebased certificate, recognised around the world.
